Dr Usui
His research paid off as he came across details of Reiki, first in sacred texts and later face to face on Mount Kurama in Japan at the end of a 21 day fast and vigil, he saw the symbols before him that were to be used for the Reiki system.
Dr Usui applied what he had learnt and developed what came to be known as the Usui System of Natural Healing. He used this method to treat and cure people from all walks of life and he travelled extensively in Japan. He trained others in his methods, one of his students being Dr Chujiro Hayashi, a man trained in western medicine and a reservist in the Japanese Imperial Navy.
Dr Hayashi continued the work of Usui and in turn trained others including a woman of Japanese descent named Hawayo Takata and it is via Hawayo Takata that the majority of people in the west know Reiki.
Reiki has continually grown popular and is now used by many holistic practitioners, and is also now used in some hospitals to help patients.
Reiki can be used to help heal the self, others and can also help ones spiritual growth.
